Who we are

Making Things Studio Limited, registered in England and Wales, company number 12169472. Our registered office is Unit 4g Oakland Office Park, Aerodrome Road, Gosport, Hampshire, PO13 0GY. We're the "data controller" for anything you share with us through this site, which is a legal way of saying the buck stops with us.

What we collect

When you use the contact form: your name, company, email address and, if you give them, your phone number and message. That's it, and it's only so we can reply.

When you visit any page: like every website, ours is served by computers that keep a short log of requests: the address of the device that asked (its IP address), the page, the time, and the kind of browser. We don't use these to identify anyone; they exist so the site keeps running and stays secure.

We don't run advertising, we don't track you across other sites, and we don't buy or sell data about anyone.

Why, and on what basis

We use what you send through the contact form to answer you and, if it turns into a conversation, to carry it on. In the language of the UK GDPR, that's our legitimate interest in running a studio and talking to the people who get in touch with it, and, where the conversation is heading towards working together, taking steps before a contract.

Server logs are kept for security, which is also a legitimate interest.

Who helps us

A few companies handle data on our behalf, under contracts that only let them use it to provide their service to us:

• Cloudflare hosts this site, keeps the logs described above, and runs the quiet check on the contact form that tells people from bots (called Turnstile).
• Resend delivers what you type in the contact form to our inbox as an email.
• Google Workspace is where that inbox lives.

All three are based in the United States. Your data goes there under the UK's approved safeguards for international transfers: the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the company is certified, and the International Data Transfer Agreement or standard contractual clauses otherwise.

We don't share your details with anyone else unless the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Enquiries: as long as we're talking, and for up to two years after so we can pick the thread back up. Server logs: Cloudflare keeps them for a matter of days.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own. Cloudflare may set one or two that are strictly necessary to keep the site secure and the contact form free of bots; these need no consent under the law, which is why there's no banner asking for it. We don't use analytics or advertising cookies.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, object to our using it, or ask for a copy. Just get in touch and we'll sort it, normally within a month. If you think we've got something wrong and we haven't put it right, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Legal

Everything on this site (words, pictures, film and the site itself) is ours or used with permission, and is protected by copyright. Please don't copy it without asking. Product names and logos of our licensing partners, and the ™ marks on our creations, belong to their respective owners.

The site is here to tell you about the studio and what we've made. Nothing on it is an offer, a promise, or professional advice; if you want to work with us, that starts with a conversation. Links to other websites are for your convenience; we don't control them and aren't responsible for what's on them.
